Thematic guided tour - Parlour privacies
Join the lady-in-waiting Wilhelmine von Senarclens-Gancy on a
journey through time. In the furnished salons of the Residential Palace she will tell you about life in the late 19th century. It was known as the “intelligent century” and people were both fascinated
and frightened of the technological changes: electricity, photography, telephones, sewing machines, to mention but a few. Being a close confident of the Hessian royal family, Wilhelmine de Grancy knows
a lot of interesting stories about life at the Hessian court.
Now that Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig and his wife spend most of their time in their palace outside Darmstadt, she likes, from time to time, to welcome guests, show them around and share some of the
family secrets.

Thematic guided tour - Hessian Tapestry
Since the 18th century the Hessian royal family has been related, by marriage,
to other royal families in Europe. During the 19th and early 20th centuries the number of marital alliances increased considerably. In the course of this guided tour, the complex interwoven threads
between the royal families of Hesse, Russia, England, Spain, Sweden and the Mountbattens, who originate in Darmstadt, will be explained. A large number of paintings and personal belongings of the
Hessian royal family help to provide an animated idea of their lives and times.
